HPL welcomes Amy A. Powers, M.D.

Amy joins HPL from Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts as a Transfusion Medicine specialist.  In addition to helping oversee blood product management at The Queen’s Medical Center, Amy will be assisting with the development of a State-wide cancer biorepository in collaboration with the Hawai'i State Cancer Consortium and UH Cancer Center, where she is faculty.  Amy is the Director of the Pathology Core at UHCC.

Dr. Powers previously served as the Medical Director of Apheresis and Infusion at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston Massachusetts.  Her duties included medical oversight of an a FACT-accredited hematopoetic progenitor cell collection program for both autologous and related allogeneic donors, a therapeutic apheresis and photopheresis program, and a therapeutic phlebotomy and autologous whole blood collection program.   The Apheresis and Infusion Unit was accredited by both the AABB and College of American Pathologists (CAP).  Her clinical duties as a Transfusion Medicine physician included care of stem cell donors and therapeutic apheresis patients as well as clinical consultation for the blood bank and stem cell laboratories.  In addition to her administrative and clinical duties, she was also responsible for teaching medicals students rotating on the clinical pathology service, as well as teaching and oversight of residents and fellows during their transfusion medicine rotation.
